Leather Care

All Harlequin Belle pieces are made using the highest quality raw materials and are lovingly handcrafted by our skilled artisans. Caring for your HB piece is an important way of sustaining its longevity.

CHARACTERISTICS OF LEATHER

Leather is a natural product and therefore has subtle variations in colour and texture. Features such as creases, scars and colour variation form the unique characteristic of each piece. Leather is designed to wear with age and may fade and soften over time.

Light coloured leather is prone to absorbing other dyes it comes in contact with, so be extra careful with denim as a lot of dyes used in denim production are unstable.

LEATHER CARE

All HB pieces should be protected before using.  A good protector will help resist the effects of daily soiling and should be applied regularly.  We recommend using the Waproo Water Proofer, however, always test first on an inconspicuous spot and follow manufacturers instructions.

Leather conditioners are good to help lubricate leather and replenish its suppleness.  We have found the Waproo Zorbel Leather Conditioner to be the best product for our leathers and recommend applying every 6 months. Again, always be sure to test on an inconspicuous spot and follow manufacturers instructions.

Please be careful of some leather conditioning/water proofing agents as they can have harsh chemicals that react differently and leave marks and ruin product. Always test on an inconspicuous spot.

If leather gets wet, please let it dry slowly and naturally. Speed drying can change the chemical structure and change the soft subtle feel that the leather once was.

If the leather gets dirty or has water marks, we recommend using a damp cloth to massage in circular motions – do not rub. Avoid using soaps or vinegar remedies to clean with as these can cause permanent damage to the leather.

STORING

To store your leather product, it is a good idea to keep protected in our HB dust bag in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight. Never store in plastic as they may sweat and leave water marks.
