Thanks for stopping by.
I’m Kellie and this is a picture of me in my office (ok, maybe it's more of a nook) when we first started Harlequin Belle way back in the heady days of 2013.
Please take a moment to look at the plants in this picture; sadly many of them didn’t make it. As it turns out I don’t have the greenest of thumbs.
I’m very happy to say that the first range we launched in December 2013 ‘I Dreamt I Fell Awake’ did a lot better than those unfortunate plants!
So much has happened since then but before I get into that, let’s back up a bit…or for those that don't wish to dwell on the past and just want to know what we are up to now click here.
The very late 90's
After 13 years of formal education I said to myself, ‘I’ll have a bit more of that please’ and signed up for University. It didn’t take long before I realised that I was really missing a creative outlet. I tried to appease it by sewing my own clothes – they were terrible – bright pink flares, green floral wide leg pants and I never wore shoes. I thought I was such a hippy.
Alas, dabbling in casual couturiery and dancing to Chumbawamba was not enough for me, so I quit uni and went to study fashion. Fast forward another 10 years and I was designing footwear! So funny how things change, develop and evolve. I now recommend everyone wear shoes all the time. If you need some they can be found here.
After getting a formal qualification in Fashion and Design, I had a great start to my new career learning under some fabulous people; pattern makers, buyers and designers. Within 3 months of my first shoey job I was overseas on a buying trip, living and loving the high life!!
If anyone is interested in some stories of that time click here. Spoiler alert: Sally Field did not send me a Christmas Card last year.
It was around here that our loyal pooch Bailey joined the team. He is a great distraction around the place and is always quick to remind us to stop working and throw a ball once in a while. It wouldn't be the same without him, that's for sure!
After a few years working in the industry I was getting restless. I felt that I needed to take things in new direction. I had a lot of ideas I wanted to try and new challenges to set myself. My husband, Andrew, was also feeling the same way about his career so we decided to take the plunge and start our own label!
And so it was that in December 2013 we launched our first range as Harlequin Belle.
Harlequin Belle is a label with a conscience. We offer stylish products with a sustainable and ethical approach.
With Harlequin Belle our goal was to create pieces with which people could really connect. Not just a bag to hold things (although functionality is also key) but a valued piece in itself that people would be proud to carry - and a reflection of their own individualism.
We go to great lengths to ensure that our products are made with utmost respect for the makers, the environment and our valued customers.back to the top
All our bags and wallets are made in small runs, some are Limited Edition. Each piece has a unique leather label sewn in proudly displaying its individual number. That way, when you have made the decision to love a HB bag you know there isn’t another one like it anywhere in the world. We use only the highest quality raw materials and construction. Our aim is to create ‘forever fashion’ whose quality and styling will last and last. Recently we started asking our customers to review their purchases. Click here to see some of what they said!back to the top
We now have a great range of beautiful pieces and are constantly adding new colours, designs and updating our classics styles.
As well as to all corners of Australia we are regularly sending our pieces all over the world and continuing to expand our ever growing family!
Head over to our online store to see what we have available now. There is sure to be something you like and shipping is free - to anywhere :-)
Our plans for the future are really quite modest: We just want to keep creating beautiful things, making our customers happy and enjoying our lives. We feel the best way to do that is to keep focusing on quality, design and making sure every part of our business is ethical and sustainable. To keep doing what we love we also need to make sure people keep seeing and loving our pieces. If you’d like to help us with this click here. We are always on the lookout for new opportunities and inspiration.
